Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation at the University of Ottawa

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular aesthetic surgeries. A breast augmentation procedure is ideal for patients who wish to enhance the size and shape of their breasts. The consultation process for breast augmentation takes into account several factors such as:

  • Medical history
  • Current state of health
  • Natural frame (height, weight, skeletal proportions)
  • Current breast tissue volume
  • Lifestyle

These points will help the surgeon to make the appropriate recommendations on the size and type of breast implant (saline or silicone), the shape and placement on the body, as well as whether or not the implant will be placed under the muscle tissue (sub-pectoral) or under the breast tissue (subglandular). The recovery period for a breast augmentation procedure will vary for each individual, but generally requires a minimum of two weeks away from work and regular activities in order reduce risks and complications during the healing process.
